AI Enabled Impersonation

AI has made digital impersonation more convincing, creating new cybersecurity risks for hotel employees and hospitality organizations.

What Is an AI-Enabled Deceptive Digital Persona?

An AI-enabled deceptive digital persona is a fabricated identity created or enhanced with artificial intelligence to appear legitimate. Attackers can build convincing profiles, messages, documents, communication histories, and other details that reinforce a false identity.

The result is an impersonation that can be much harder to recognize than a traditional phishing attempt.

Why Is AI Impersonation a Risk for Hotels?

Hotels rely on constant communication between employees, managers, vendors, corporate teams, and guests. Attackers can use deceptive identities to target requests involving credentials, guest information, payment data, property management systems, financial transactions, or sensitive business information.

A convincing identity does not necessarily mean a legitimate identity.

How Can Employees Protect Against AI-Enabled Impersonation?

Employees should look beyond whether a message or profile appears authentic. Unexpected requests, unusual changes in communication, pressure to act quickly, or requests for sensitive information should trigger additional scrutiny.

Most importantly, employees should use independent verification when a request involves sensitive data, money, access, or other high-risk actions.
